Contest

Maine state legislators this year have submitted more than 2000 separate pieces of legislation for consideration. One question seems obvious: Which is the stupidest?

Here's our first nominee, a bill that would seize Acadia National Park from the federal government.

Feel free to nominate your own favorite piece of stupid legislation. Here's a handy list of titles by member.

How about Rep. Courtney (R-York/Sanford)'s plan to eliminate the right to register to vote on Election Day (LR 496)? Seems kinda silly to me.

A lot of Rep. Duprey's (R-Hampden) bills are stupid, but two of the best are LR 299 and LR 300 allowing the state to issue "pro-choice" and "pro-life" license plates.

Nice suggestions.

I happen to like Strimlings stupid-in-a-good-way bill to "annex the greater Portsmouth metro regions and the entirety of the Isles of Shoals" from New Hampshire.

What about Sen. Damon of Hancock's bill LR 1996 An Act To Permit Municipalities To Institute Sewer User Fees. Seems quite a mess.
