Primary Challenge to Snowe?
The CCL's daily caricature of the Christian right "The Record" today contains an interview with representative Brian Duprey of Hampden.
Q. Are you going to seek higher office in the next few years?
A. I am considering running for the Senate against Olympia Snowe. If I can raise enough seed money to kick off a credible campaign, I will take the initiative and run. I will be watching her voting record very carefully. If she votes against President Bush’s judicial nominees, or tries to block the President’s agenda, it will speed up my decision to run.
In the interview, Duprey also expounds on the "activist judges" attacking marriage, his ideas about abortion, his view of which party is more Christian, and his relationship with Baldacci. "I am not exactly on speaking terms with the Governor" explains Duprey.

Since when is serving the leader of one's party better than serving he interests of one's constituents? It's that kind of mindset that's destroying representive politics.

I agree. For all of this talk about what direction the Democrats are moving in, the Republicans lately have been consistently hostile to the big tent approach, and are slowly purging their moderates. A Duprey candidacy can only help Dems round here, but I doubt it will really have much of an effect. St. Olympia has this seat as long as she wants it. I hope this nutjob is the GOP nominee against Baldacci. The Governor will wipe the floor with him.

New nominee for the stupidest bill , introduced by none other than the unflappable Brian Duprey: a bill to make it illegal to abort a fetus because it has the, as yet undiscovered, "gay gene." I think he has a selfish motive: if they're never born, he wouldn't get to deprive them of equal rights. But alas, wouldn't this be admitting that homosexuality is biological, therefore depriving the Christian right of one of their favorite past times-badgering gay people to go straight? A lot is explained by the fact that he got the idea from the Rush Limbaugh show.
